Aging Mall Makes Way for the Arts: ArtSpace at Crestwood Court

Challenge: Challenged by a center suffering from a high vacancy rate and poor public perception, the Jones Lang LaSalle management team at Crestwood Court in St. Louis realized the need for creativity in order to generate success in the coming year.  The concept of ArtSpace was born as a means of re-engaging the local marketplace in the center and combating the vacancy problems.

Solution: ArtSpace at Crestwood Court can best be described as retail space reinvented as a thriving artists’ colony. It is in-line mall shop spaces dedicated to presenting quality artists with a place in which to teach, work, perform and exhibit their art.

Results: Through an aggressive public relations campaign the center was able to use the ArtSpace platform to attract hundreds of potential tenants, generate specialty leasing and sponsorship income, retain national tenants and create a media buzz that has transformed the identity of the center from struggling mall to a thriving arts destination.  The agency won a coveted MAXI award for this project.
