Artist Dale Chihuly Brings Attention to Architectural Glass for Solutia

Challenge:  Solutia wanted to create stronger awareness in the market place for its architectural interlayers for glass and highlight uses of the product to inspire architects.

Solution:  Solutia launched its first design competition in 1995.  To help differentiate itself from its competition (DuPont Bendicutus Awards), we invited Dale Chihuly, an internationally recognized glass artist to create the awards.  Chihuly was also invited to speak at the AIA show in Dallas that year, officially kicking off the Solutia Design Awards in a very attention-getting way.

Results:  More than 650 architects attended Chihuly’s lecture and were exposed to the Solutia Design Awards.  The resulting publicity lasted throughout the year and helped to generate interest and increase entries into the Design Awards.  Today, the six year old competition is well known in the architectural and design communities and attracts outstanding entries from throughout the world.
