Hospital Shows Its Heart: Free Screenings, Demonstrations Draw Packed Crowds

Challenge:  Engage the community to attend Mercy Hospital’s largest community service event and provide education on heart health. The goal of the event is to help decrease the incidence of life threatening heart conditions, and help reduce health care costs by adopting a healthier lifestyle.

Solution: Held event at high traffic, easy access venue – West County mall in order to boost attendance in the mall.

Results: Agency organized more than 25 media appearances/articles in newspapers to pre-promote the event.  Interviews ranged from cardiologists providing health tips on television to heart healthy cooking demonstrations to patient success stories.

Secured KSDK, Post-Dispatch and CBS Radio Group as media partners and leveraged paid media buys to include added value.  For example, NBC affiliate Channel 5 covered the event and served as honorary chair.

Organized “pre-event” to promote Heart Fair to executive women in the city, who in turn, promoted the event to their corporate employees.  More than 70 executives attended event, held at Armstrong Teasdale law firm event space in Clayton.

More than 1500 men and women were screened, event was so successful in 2011 that Mercy is considering holding at additional event in St. Charles County.
